Matroyshka Doll Pillows: Here's The Project I've Been Working On For The Past Three Months.

Every time I start a project, it snowballs into this crazy ambitious "Why would I EVER do this to myself????" moment.  No matter how hard I try to simplify it so it doesn't take over my life, I always end up adding one more thing or changing one step that adds so much work.

But...I kind of love it...secretly.

So, I introduce to you the last three months of my life.  Matryoshka pillows, meet blog readers.  Blog readers, meet Matryoshka pillows.

Ta da!! I decided to make not one, but two (TWO!!) pillows.  I must have a death wish.
Anyway, they turned out more perfectly than I could ever imagine, they match perfectly with all the colors we're doing in our living room, and they look super cute.

The back looks crazy...but also kind of cool.  You can also see the blue fabric I used for the backing.

Kind of pretty...
...but her face also looks kind of scary.

Also, it was my first time putting in a zipper! Why didn't anyone tell me it wasn't as hard as it looked? I followed this tutorial from Design*Sponge.  While I was at it, I recovered some other pillows I had laying around, too.  The lighting is reeeeeally yellow. My bad.

But they're still cute, riiiiight? (Just say yes.)

The only bad thing about this whole thing is that I get super worried that someone is going to smush one or sit on it or spill something on it whilst sitting on it...let's face it, we don't have a whole lot of respect for couch pillows.  Mostly because they usually don't take three months to make.  So, if you're a house guest of mine, don't be surprised if I stop whatever I'm doing to revoke your pillow privileges should you abuse them.  Just sayin'.

Oh, and I tried to take pictures of the progress along the way... I wish I would have taken more--the video would have turned out a lot cooler.  Nevertheless, it works.  You can watch it below if you would like your life to be enriched by a 1 1/2 minute video.

  2. Wow Danita, you're really gettin your babushka on. Hows about summoning your eagle powers and making some with pyramids and snakes in cactus? Wait - Elvis on velvet! But seriously, the pellows are darling. When we visit (when?.......sooooooooon) I'll try hard not to spill the guac and salsa.
